Procedure Details
During a tummy tuck procedure, an incision is made across the lower abdomen and around the belly button. Then, the excess skin and fat is removed while realigning the abdominal muscles that have been stretched from pregnancy or weight gain. The skin from the upper abdomen is pulled tight and closed along the incision across the lower abdomen. Scars can be concealed beneath underwear and bathing suit bottoms.
Recovery Timeline
A compression garment is required for two to six weeks following surgery. Tummy tuck patients are usually able to resume light activity after two weeks, and are able to return to work in three to four weeks. Strenuous activity can usually be resumed after about six weeks. This will vary from patient to patient.
